My name is Ngun Chin, but I go by Chin. I like to play volleyball and tennis. I have a husband and three children: two sons and a daughter. My oldest son is 15 and my other son is 13. My daughter is almost a year old. I come from Hakha, Myanmar.

When I was growing up, I would go to school at 9 a.m. and come home at 3 p.m. Then I would help my mom with her restaurant. From Myanmar I went to Malaysia and met a wonderful man who would later become my husband. We became refugees and flew to Canada in 2008.

I was very cold when I arrived. It surprised me a lot because it was never this cold back home. It was hard for me to understand and talk with others because I didn’t know any English. My two sons adapted to Canada easily because their first school ever was in Canada, so they have always known more English than me. My daughter was born here, so I don’t think she’ll struggle in Canada. I’m studying English so I can become a Canadian citizen.

I think Canada is a fun and safe place to live. We are happy to be here.
